About your eating disorder specialist

Private eating disorder specialist providing one-to-one treatment UK

Amy Gardiner BSc (Hons), MBPsS

Advanced Eating Disorders Practitioner | Advanced Nutritional Interventions for Eating Disorders.

My approach to eating disorder support is practical, structured, and evidence-informed. I combine psychological and behavioural strategies with clear guidance on nourishment and recovery routines. Clients do not just understand their eating disorder, they make measurable progress in how they relate to food and their bodies. My approach is informed by the principles of Health at Every Size®. This means I create a space that is inclusive of all body sizes and shapes, where you can feel safe and supported to seek help. My focus is on well-being, behaviours that support health, and your individual goals without focusing on weight or appearance. My aim is to offer care that is respectful, non-judgmental, and aligned with evidence-based, weight-inclusive principles.

I offer one-to-one sessions in Beechwood House Clinic in Down Hatherley or online providing focused, collaborative support. We identify the factors driving behaviours, address the most disruptive patterns first, and build sustainable change step by step so clients feel supported and capable of moving forward in recovery.

Training and background

I completed specialist training with the National Centre for Eating Disorders including practitioner skills and advanced nutritional interventions. This training provides a combined psychological and nutritional perspective that informs every session and supports more effective recovery.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and am a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have formal training in nutritional rehabilitation for eating disorders. Before opening my practice, I spent over ten years in the NHS and eight years in trauma-focused physical rehabilitation. That experience taught me how the body responds to stress, how behaviour change happens, and what supports recovery over the long term.

This combination of eating disorder expertise, psychology, nutrition, and practical clinical experience forms a grounded, evidence-aligned approach. Clients benefit from structured, personalised support that goes beyond generic therapy and helps them make real, lasting progress.

My approach

Our work is collaborative and structured, focusing on the patterns that keep people struggling with food, eating behaviours, and body image. Clients learn to manage anxiety, reduce compulsive behaviours, and develop a more balanced and confident relationship with food and themselves.

Each session is paced to feel manageable and tailored to the individual. We prioritise the most disruptive behaviours first so clients feel safer and more in control quickly, then build sustainable changes step by step. Progress is reviewed regularly to keep treatment focused and effective.

Where appropriate, sessions are coordinated with your GP, dietitians, or other healthcare professionals. This ensures continuity of care and supports long-term recovery.

Who I work with

I support adolescents and adults who struggle with restrictive eating, binge eating, purging, emotional eating, disordered eating, and difficulties with body image. Clients work with me to develop structured strategies, build confidence around food, and make sustainable changes in how they relate to eating and their bodies, providing private eating disorder support and specialist therapy.

For younger clients, parents or guardians are often included in the process to ensure safety, understanding, and a coordinated approach to recovery. Suitability for support is determined during the initial assessment, which provides a clear plan tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.

What to expect

Sessions provide a confidential space to understand and address eating behaviours, body image concerns, emotional triggers, and related thoughts as part of private eating disorder support.

Support is available in person at Beechwood House, Gloucester, or online via secure video, whichever is most practical. During sessions, I focus on strategies and practical steps that help clients make sustainable changes. Progress is reviewed regularly, and the approach is adapted to meet each person’s needs. After your initial assessment, I will outline the recommended a treatment plan and agree on the next steps with you.

Professional standards

This service operates within clear professional boundaries, safeguarding guidance, and privacy standards. If at any point a different or more intensive form of support is needed, this will be discussed openly, and clear recommendations for next steps will be provided.
